The musical work ''THEOPHANES the GREEK'' is an original musical composition by Savvas Karatzias written for a mixed choir and chamber orchestra. A musical pilgrimage that follows and reflects in sounds the life of Russian iconography founder Theophanes who was also the teacher of the most important Russian iconographer (Saint) Andrei Rublev.A few words for Theophanes the Greek: Theophanes (1340-1410) was born in Constantinople where he painted his first works. However, he soon decided to leave his homeland and started a long journey to the land or Rus with Crimea as his first stop and destination to Great Novgorod, a city that was the cultural and financial centre of Medieval Russia. His last stop was Moscow where he illustrated the greatest churches of Kremlin! His artistic style is incomparable in expression and his contemporaries described him with admiration as the «painter with the broom», alluding to his ability in creating murals of great size, as well as an «erudite philosopher» due to his great education. Many of his murals have been saved, with the most important in the churches of the Transfiguration of the Savior (Novgorod), the Nativity, the Assumption and the Annunciation of the Mother of God (Kremlin and Moscow). The musical work o Savvas Karatzias reflects the journey of Theophanes from the capital of the Byzantine Empire, to the capital of the Russian Empire, a travel that is suggestive of the transfer of the Byzantine culture to Russia which carries on till our days. For the great musical work THEOPHANES THE GREEK, the composer Savvas Karatzias cooperates with the French Choir MIKROKOSMOS, the Mixed Choir of Rhode’s Municipality, the Children’s Choir of Music School of Rhodes, the Children’s Choir Amabile, as well as the internationally acclaimed pianist Panagiotis Gogos.

The musical program of the concert « La Nuit Dévoilée » proposes compositions of the 20th and 21st-century  (Joby Talbot, Meredith Monk, Francis Poulenc, Edvard Grieg, Grete Pedersen...) with contrasting styles to come together in harmony. The artistic director, Loïc Pierre, invented a different kind of scenography and sound spatialization in order to immerse the audience more fully into the choral performance. Everything beats in time, the singers fall in step with one another, languages and harmonies are fused.
